Ace & Sam Measurement Guide

At Ace & Sam, we understand that true luxury lies in the details. All measurements should be taken in inches, using a soft tailor’s measuring tape, while standing upright and relaxed.

Kaftan

Top Measurements

MEASUREMENT HOW TO MEASURE
Neck Place the tape around the base of your neck (where a collar would sit). Allow slight room for comfort.
Shoulder Width Measure from the edge of one shoulder bone straight across the back to the other shoulder bone. Keep the tape flat.
Chest Wrap the tape around the fullest part of your chest and under your arms. Keep the tape level and snug but not tight.
Stomach / Midsection Measure around the widest part of your stomach or belly area. This ensures the Kaftan drapes naturally.
Hip Place the tape around the widest part of your hips (typically around your seat area).
Body Length  Start at the top of your shoulder (close to your neck) and measure straight down to your desired Kaftan length — usually just below the knee or mid-calf.
Sleeve Length  With your arm relaxed by your side, measure from the shoulder bone down to your wrist (or desired sleeve point for ¾ or long).
Bicep Wrap the tape around the widest part of your upper arm.
Wrist Measure the circumference of your wrist or where you’d like the cuff to sit.

Trouser Measurements

MEASUREMENT HOW TO MEASURE
Waist Measure around your natural waistline (just above your hips). Keep it snug but comfortable.
Hip Wrap the tape around the fullest part of your hips or seat area.
Thigh / Lap Measure around the thickest part of your thigh, just below the hip joint.
Knee Wrap the tape gently around your knee area while standing straight.
Inseam / Inside Leg Measure from the top of your inner thigh down to your ankle (or desired trouser length).
Outseam / Trouser Length Start from your waistline down the outside of your leg to the desired length (ankle or floor level).
Hem Width Measure across the bottom opening of your trouser leg.
Rise (Front) Measure from the waistband down to the bottom of the zipper area (for proper sitting comfort).

Outer Agbada (Flow Layer)

MEASUREMENT POINT DESCRIPTION & HOW TO MEASURE
Shoulder Width Measure across the back from the edge of one shoulder to the other (where the sleeve seam begins). This determines how the robe drapes.
Chest Width Wrap the tape around the fullest part of your chest — under the armpits and across the shoulder blades. Ensure it’s not tight.
Robe Length Measure from the highest point of the shoulder (near the neck) down to your desired length, typically mid-calf or slightly below the knee.
Sleeve Drop / Arm Opening Measure from the shoulder seam to the bottom edge of the robe’s sleeve opening. This ensures free arm movement.
Robe Width (at Hem) Measure across the bottom of the robe to define how full or narrow the hem will be. More width = more flow.

Jacket

Top Measurements

MEASUREMENT DESCRIPTION / HOW TO MEASURE
Shoulder Width Measure from one shoulder seam to the other, across the back. Keep the tape straight and firm, not tight.
Chest Wrap the tape around the fullest part of your chest (under the arms). Keep arms relaxed. Add 1 inch for comfort.
Waist (Jacket) Measure around the narrowest part of your torso, just above the navel. This helps shape the jacket’s waist contour.
Hip Measure around the widest part of your hips, ensuring the tape stays level all around.
Bicep With arm slightly bent, measure around the fullest part of your upper arm.
Sleeve Length Measure from the tip of the shoulder down to the wrist bone (or where you want the cuff to end).
Jacket Length Start at the top of the shoulder (near the neck) and measure down the front to the desired length — usually mid-zipper for a modern cut.
Neck Circumference Measure around the base of your neck where your shirt collar sits — not too tight, not loose.

Trouser Measurements

MEASUREMENT DESCRIPTION / HOW TO MEASURE
Waist Measure around your natural waistline (where your trousers sit). Keep the tape snug but not tight.
Seat / Hip Measure around the fullest part of your hips and buttocks while keeping the tape horizontal.
Thigh Measure around the thickest part of your upper thigh, just below the crotch.
Knee Width Measure around the knee area for desired fit (especially important for slim or tapered styles).
Hem Width (Ankle) Measure around the bottom opening of the trouser leg.
Front Rise Measure from the waistband front center down to the crotch seam.
Trouser Length (Outseam) Measure from the waistband to the desired full trouser length along the outer leg.

Pro Tips for Accurate Measurements

1. Use a professional tailor whenever possible for best precision.

2. If measuring yourself, ask a friend to assist — especially for shoulder, back, and sleeve measurements.

3. Keep your posture natural and relaxed (don’t hold your breath).

4. Measure over light clothing, not thick garments.

5. Record all values to the nearest 0.5 inch.
